Daylight savings marks the beginning of winter hibernation. Instead of mourning the early sunset, we rejoice the beginning of our winter evening ritual. Like all great customs it has rules that must be obeyed: a big fire, a big red wine, a juicy book, a comfy chair and an early bedtime (snuggled in under our big down comforter).
We also just finished Olive Kitteridge, and, yes, it deserved all the accolades. Who doesn’t love Olive? Speak up, we want to know.
Tracy Kidder’s latest– Strength in What Remains– is yet another great book from this amazing author.
For a wickedly satirical read, grab Evelyn Waugh’s classic A Handful of Dust. We just finished it the other day– delicious. You won’t put it down. One of those books that takes you to different worlds (on the rare occasion that www.kayak.com/buzz lets you down).
Family holidays giving you a different kind of shiver? Then read Anne Enright’s The Gathering– it’ll make even your family look sane.
