Perk up your spirits with this… Humpday Doggie Contest* January 20th, 2010 | 76 Comments Tags: Contests
OK, that sounds way dirtier than we intended… that’s wrong even to our ears.
What we mean is this: it’s Wednesday, that day of the week you might need your spirit perked up, and you’re a dog lover. And you’ve got the most stylish/adorable/talented/heroic dog in the world.
We want you to prove it.
Tell us your most amazing dog story. Got a dog who could perform an incredible trick? Who saved you from a fire? Found novel ways to communicate? Helped balance the checkbook? Or just does something really really, really cute? (Don’t they all?)
Write to us about your favorite bitches. Best story will be featured on our blog AND will win a copy of The Bitches. Post in Drop-a-Dime box by next Wednesday, January 27.
And be sure to read Chapter 10, “Pamper The Bitch,” in Bitches on a Budget. Tell us what you think of our doggie ideas!
*Oh, and make sure you send us your kitty stories. Of course we love little puss.
Send your pix, too!

Yankee is a mix,and hubby says its his baby;so while hubby is at work,Yankee and me do r thing, one of them waiting on the mailperson, then sometimes reading it.
While watching Santa Buddies during the holidays I discovered that my little Yorkie Ace LOVES to watch movies with talking animals! Seriously the cutest thing ever…his ears perk up, his little body shakes & he even stand up on his hind legs to see better! He watched the WHOLE MOVIE…no joke!
This is my baby bear, buddy… He is full of extra energy only at night when its bed time… Great dog, he loves kids and my neices have a blast with him…. although he is the hairiest beast in the world and i swear when i brush him i can make extra dogs or coats out of his fun he’s still my bestest friend ever!
Four years ago we adopted two adorable 4 month old Redbone Coonhounds, brothers for life. Of course we had collars on them as we walked them daily but one day when they were 5 months old, Ivan and Tyler were playing roughly and we heard Ivan scream, unlike a bark or cry I ran to him and thought at first glance Tyler was attacking him. It was outragous to even think this was the case and thank god my boyfriend was home as when we tried to pry them apart we realized that Tyler bottom jaw (teeth included) had gotten somehow under Ivan’s collar and was twisting and so tight that Ivan’s eyes were rolled back into his head and his breathing…very labored. I ran for scissors and no go, then a knife and my boyfriend was able to cut the collar just in time. We all collapsed on the floor shaking and thinking what outcome would have occured had we not been there. Since then, our boys have collars which are put on only when out walking. Happy ending for all !!!!
LOL I have to say, I have met Horatio. He’s a lousy watch dog, and really doesn’t cuddle well. BUT he also doesn’t wake anyone up in the middle of the night having to go outside, and he never has accidents on the carpet. Oh, and shoes are safe around Horatio as well.
Coco-Nut, a 3 yr old German Shorthair, is THE bitch in our house. She can’t balance the checkbook, do the dishes, or cook us supper, but she still rules on us. Being the crafty bitch that she is, she has figured out when it is safe to get on the furniture (when papa isn’t home), when she can cruise the counter for a snack (which has included a birthday cake, roast beef-still hot from the oven, and a whole pizza to name just a few), and how to get you to do just about anything she wants. Anytime I doze off after lunch, she will wake me up after an hour or so by jabbing her nose into my eye, and then sit and whine at me like–its time to play! Whenever anyone is feeling a bit under the weather she is always at their side to comfort them. She can be quite a challenge at times, but its all good, afterall—she is THE bitch of the house. We absolutely love her, and wouldn’t have her any other way! Best Bitch dog we’ve ever had, :]
Hank is a Black Lab/German Shorthair, who was born on 07/07/07 and it has been very lucky for him! When he was just a baby, he got into and ate my partner’s Via*** – 5 of them! In a panic, I called the vet, who instructed me on how to make Hank vomit (a little hydrogen peroxide poured down his throat). 2 weeks later, he went missing for about 12 hours on a sub-zero Minnesota winter day – the neighbor had ran him over with his car and poor Hank lay unconscious for hours in the freezing cold at about 6 months old! We brought him into the vet and surprisingly, he was only bruised and cut up – no broken bones or internal injuries, thank goodness! The vet clinic did laugh when I told them that he was the infamous Via*** puppy! He’s been in numerous scrapes since then…
Harley actually belongs to my partner’s cousin, whom is currently serving in the US Navy. we’ve been “babysitting” for a year now. Harley is a 16 month old Bull Mastiff/Boxer who loves to snuggle and play with his “brother” Hank.
Both boys are quite spoiled and tend to think that they’re actually lap dogs…I often have 140 pounds of puppy in bed with me! They love to romp through the snow and play “hide and seek.”
We also have Molly, a nine year old Black Lab. Molly used to be a very agile and avid hunting dog. She loved to sneak outside (by opening the door herself) and would often be found on the neighbors’ house roof! Yes, the roof! Unfortunately, after having a litter of 10 HUGE puppies, finally getting fixed at age 6, and just getting a little old and lazy, she’s now topping the scales at 160+ pounds and has had to retire from hunting…she can’t get in the truck anymore – I actually have to help her get into the minivan!
We adore all of our dogs – our family wouldn’t be complete without them!
By request here are more pics of Horatio, the snail. His first home was a glass jar, then I got him one of those plastic carriers because I was afraid the cat might get too curious and knock him off the counter. (I didn’t think broken glass and snail would be a good combination.) I am trying to coax him out for a profile shot, but the house is chilly and he doesn’t like the cold. If I warm him up too fast he might just end up as escargot which is how my husband would prefer him.
My puppy Belle is 4 months old. An adorable mix of Chihuahua and Shitzu. She runs around the apartment at full speed. She chases & catches her tail (at full speed). She chases and catches bubbles. Mostly, she wants love. She gives us (my boyfriend and I) all her love and affection. Since I cannot have children, she is my little girl. Last week I had the worst migraine that I have had in years. Usually Belle is just jumping up and down and running around for attention. This day, as I lay on the couch in the darkness with tears streaming out of my eyes; Belle gently and quietly climbed up on the couch curled up on my chest with her head on my chin and layed with me. I realized after a time, that she too had tears coming down. As the migraine receded, she just laid there with me, calmly and quietly. When the migraine was gone, she instinctively knew that I still needed quiet; she did not bark, whine, or howl once that day. The next morning when I got up to let her potty, she looked at me and I swear she winked and smiled at me. She was telling me it would be a good day. My puppy Belle may be just a little slip of a thing, but she has the biggest heart and most love of any pet I have ever known.
My pup Ares sometimes has one of those bad days when your drool just gets the better of you. Ares is an English Mastiff and is part of a breed for special needs children and is working on his last rounds of training for children so he can visit and cheer up sick in hospitals. He did achieve the first 2 levels of dog training and has passed his Canine Good Citizen certification.
This is my baby princess! She is a boston terrier n the best dog i have ever had! She is 2 years old! She is very protective of my 2 daughters n me! She has an annoying bark but i always no when someone is coming because she barks like crazy! lol I wouldnt change her for anything!
My dog Cedric is so awesome! He was going to be my grandchildrens dog, but their mama called me after one sleepless night and asked if we would take Cedric into our home so they could get some sleep. That was 3 years ago. He has been my best friend and greatest companion since, He’s a little over weight ( 38 pounds according to our Vet!) but he is so amusing that we just don’t see any flaws in this guy! He thinks he’s quite fetching! ( we do too).
I have several pets but I really like my pet snail, Horatio. He’s easy to keep. He eats very little. He doesn’t make a lot of noise or pee on the carpet or tear up the furniture. I never have to walk him.
He just needs a moist environment, some cucumber every now and then and a little piece of cuttle bone or chalk for calcium. Horatio is a large snail and his shell somewhat resembles a piece of poo…but he was free. He is a wild snail. (as in not domestic as opposed to party animal) I captured him in my garden. There wasn’t much of a struggle.

I posted my Bitch dog yesterday, but I don’t see it on the site. Whats the deal?
This are my 3 doggies. I love them with all my heart and would do anything for them…I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
