Our message is simple: enjoying life doesn’t take oodles of dough. Find pleasure in simple daily living. And, food is one of life’s basic pleasures. Great, yummy ingredients + simple recipes= orgasmically good tastes. Eat healthy. We devote an entire chapter in our book to shopping for and preparing great food. Tomatoes, cabbage, chicken thighs, bluefish (don’t be a brat and crinkle up your nose) all are inexpensive and delicious ingredients that are healthy and easily prepared.
We want your recipes. Send us your smart, healthy and tasty favorite meals that use inexpensive ingredients. Remember, there’s more to a chicken than just the white meat (besides, honey, no new breasts for you this year, you’re on a budget remember?).
We’ll select several to share next week. Post them right in the comment section on the upper right hand of this post.
You can even post a video of you preparing the recipe. That could be fun!

Over the weekend, we made the best roast chicken we had all summer. (Actually, it was the only roast chicken we had all summer, it’s been too damn hot to turn on the oven.) We stuffed the cavity with fresh herbs from the garden, garlic, onion, and...

This summer watermelons seem to be the bunnies of the vegetable world. (They are the state vegetable in Oklahoma, we’re still struggling with this discovery.)
Everywhere we go watermelons of all shapes and sizes are spilling out of crates,...
In case you hadn’t noticed, most of us are spending more time at home these days.
It works for us since we’re mad cooks and always looking for victims, ahem, guests to eat our latest experiments. Since we’re never sure how dinner...
It’s hot again on our planet and we’ve been thinking about how to stay hydrated. We’re big water drinkers. It’s free, it’s easily available, it’s free, it’s not too sweet, and, did we mention, it is...
Last night we made one of our favorite dinners-brown rice bowls: Brown rice, steamed spinach, mung bean threads, squash in sesame oil, seared tofu with teriyaki sauce, carrots, bean sprouts, fresh spearmint, cilantro, basil, ground peanuts. For...

We Love Our Garden Weed
It’s that time of the summer when the weed in our garden runs wild! We’re not complaining, we love our weed, but as good as it is early on the more you use the trickier it gets. Face it, overdosing is not a delicious...
Back by popular demand the best brownies you’ll ever make. Period.
Food fashions fade in and out like pouffy skirts. It’s kind of tricky to know when to bite. The latest seems to be a hot and sweet tongue teasing, and we’re here to...
Blueberries are the best.
At this time of the summer blueberries are readily available and attractively priced. So attractively priced, in fact, that we often end buying more than we can bake, conserve, and munch in a timely manner. Our...
