Sometimes we just have to repeat ourselves. For those bitches who haven’t yet heard our AAA philosophy, here it comes.
(Insert lots of dramatic, self-important throat clearing.)
So.
We had a flat tire recently. A real blow-out. Alone, stranded on the side of the road, sun setting, no spare in the trunk, we counted our blessings for the AAA card tucked inside our wallet. Saved us an arm and a leg on towing charges. Yes, our hearts melted with gratitude when the tow-driver descended from his vehicle. Speaking of arms and legs… his were the perfect blend of sinew and sculptedness. Picture a cross between Marlon Brando in Streetcar and Michelangelo’s David. We’re talking epic. The nametag on his shirt said DAVE, as if to confirm the resemblance to that 16th-century sculpture. Dark eyes, square jaw, amazing butt—
The tire. This is about the tire.
Got us thinking about AAA. Saves big bucks in the long term, and assures a bitch’s safety out on the open road. (And we’re all about the open road, as you’ll see in our book.) That said, we’ve discovered it’s not uncommon for people to pay twice for the same service. Yes, you absolutely need a roadside assistance plan. But it’s often the case that your car’s warranty, or your auto insurance policy, include this feature. Double check! We’re all for 2-for-1, but not when you’re paying twice.
So make two quick calls today: your insurance company and car dealer. Drop AAA if you find you’re already covered.
If we break down on a major highway we always stick to the pros (it’s dangerous out in the fast lane). But it’s worth noting that a true bitch knows how to change a tire herself (and always has a spare in the trunk—we’ve learned our lesson). Because while it’s fun to ogle that sexy driver, rescue-me fantasies only go so far.
(If you’re reading, Dave honey, I didn’t mean it… You can rescue me whenever you like.)
My hubby and I are Farmers agents and we have both. As has been mentioned, it’s really cheap to put towing on your auto policy, but the auto policy towing and AAA often have totally different mileage and requirements. We broke down three times last year and each time we measured who was more appropriate for how far we were from home and what the problem was. We were so happy to have both that we re-upped our AAA and kept our insurance towing.
Superb!. You just got a new follower. I hope you keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more stuff.
The problem with your insurance roadside assistance is many times it requires you to pay for the service and then be reimbursed. AAA you just show the card and keep your money. Depends on if you have the money to cover the tow or whatever else.
Please remember also to include the tire iron or a 4way to change the tire. I learned to change a tire when I was a teen. My Mom with three teen girls were stranded on a blizzard night. I changed the tire, teaching myself! When my two daughters and I got a flat some 20 years later…the man who changed our tires before the trip forgot to put the 4 way in the trunk. We were unable to change the flat! We sat on the side of the Interstate in Illinois for 2 hours. NO ONE would stop to help ! Finally, I stood in the road..so a semi stopped and though the driver did not have the right tool..he called out to other drivers until one could come help! THIS IS AN ALL CALL TO WOMEN….Learn how to do it!
I have ‘payed forward’ by helping any woman I see on the side of the road!
haha that’s funny cuz just tonight my mom and I got stuck in the Starbucks parking lot cuz the car wouldn’t start and had to call AAA and have them tow us home!
talk about coincidence/small world. love it!
Before you drop AAA, check out the other benefits to membership besides roadside assistance (and towing), such as “Show Your Card and Save” benefits with local and national merchants, restaurants, rental car companies, etc. In addition, there are lost of other benefits to membership, such as trip interruption, etc. Don’t throw out the baby with the bath! All roadside assistance plans are not equal!
My dad pointed this out to me when I was still in highschool. For $1/month our State Farm had Roadside Assistance. And I used it! Several times! (Yes, I lock my keys in my car lot.)
When I moved away and married we switched to USAA and you better believe that I made sure that this feature was on our policy.
A girls gotta do, what a girls gotta do.
Thanks Bitches!
