Green-Frugal-Free: Get Down at the Dump*
November 20th, 2010 | 12 Comments

Recycling stations, in these times, should be a frugal-green b’s destination for fabulous finds. That’s right, the dump. Just like you should head over to your nearest Walmart or Target in the priciest zip nearby (for the best assortments), if you can enter without a sticker, check out the priciest garbage facility that has a take-it-or-leave-it near you. Be clever as you wait by the entrance for all those rich, or the once-rich forced to move and now cleaning out, to deliver their goodies. Restrain your Madame LaFarge like snickers, remember what goes around comes around, as you sort through their leftovers.

Repaint a desk and chair for Jimmy. Organize a new library for Grandma. Set the holiday table with oh-so-chic mismatched depression glass dishes.

A final word: Dignity. If you are picking through the garbage, at least be picky.

Clever-in-Home

In case you hadn’t noticed, most of us are spending more time at home these days.

It works for us since we’re mad cooks and always looking for victims, ahem, guests to eat our latest experiments. Since we’re never sure how dinner will really turn out, our strategy is to razzle- dazzle them with very cool table settings.

Target: John Derian

As a result, we’re always on the look out for fun new ways to spice up our dishes. Those of you who have read ‘The Bitches’ know of our love affair with Target for chic, smart, affordable design. What you also know is that Target  hires ‘guest’ hot shot designers to do limited collections of fab goods at great prices. Too often, though, the distribution of these goods is limited and they sell out fast.

So here’s a tip:  a great looking set of wares from John Derian is premiering at Target on  9/5.

And, for those of you B’s who are on to Gilt Groupe (savvy Bitches on a Budget book readers– we know you are) they are doing a collaboration with Target this Friday 8/20 starting at noon. They’re selling not only John Derian, but also killer handbags from Mulberry  (available in stores in October) for those now rare occasions when you do get to go out!

Target: Mulberry

Zac Posen For Target
April 23rd, 2010 | Comments

This is the weekend that Zac debuts his collection at Target.  Taking a page from our book they call their designers ‘fabulously frugal’ and match hot looks with hot prices. Check it out this Sunday. Our experience is that quantities are often limited on the really cool stuff , so shop early (not often, just early–you are on a budget, bitch).

We love the collection, see the preview pix at NBC.NY’s blog site — but, please lose the socks and high heeled shoe look. It’s bad.

What do you think?
